The patients at the Masonic Children's Hospital are unique in so many ways - not only are the amazing children, but they also tend to be sicker, with rare diseases, which includes childhood cancer, that require a unique approach and specific expertise. Many families are dealing with the devastation of critical and life-threatening illnesses for their children, which takes a huge toll on patients and their families.

The child family life team at the Masonic Children's Hospital utilizes LEGOS and other toy, art, and gaming resources to engage children in normalizing developmentally appropriate play in the healthcare environment. Play is universal and something that is familiar to children of all ages, making it a useful tool to decrease stress and anxiety surrounding medical experiences.

Building a LEGO model, for example, can be a welcomed therapeutic distraction during a long hospital stay or a way for a child to 'master' something when their experience feels out of control. These LEGO bricks may be small, but their impact is BIG!

Thank you for your contributions to our patients and families!

We can always use a wide variety of sizes and age focused Lego sets. Since the patients get to keep the sets our inventory is constantly changing. Please stick to sets under about $100. Many are under $50 or $30 and those are used the most.
